How Many Paychecks Until Christmas 2026? A Biweekly Savings Plan

Christmas feels a long way off until you count your paychecks. Once you know exactly how many paydays you have before December 25, a scary holiday total turns into a small, fixed amount you set aside from each check. Here's how to work it out, with a quick calculator.
The quick answer for 2026
Christmas Day 2026 falls on a Friday, so Christmas Eve is Thursday, December 24. Counting from the end of October:
- Biweekly (every two weeks): you most likely have four paychecks left before Christmas Eve.
- Weekly: about eight.
- Semi-monthly (15th and last day): usually three: November 15, November 30 and December 15. When a payday lands on a weekend, many employers pay on the business day before, so check your pay schedule.
- Monthly: one or two, depending on whether your December paycheck arrives before the 24th.

Step 1: Count paychecks, not weeks
Write down every payday between now and Christmas Eve. Don't count a paycheck that lands after December 24, because most of your shopping will be done by then. If your company pays early around the holidays, check with payroll before you count on it.
Step 2: Put a real number on Christmas
List everything the season costs you: gifts per person, food and hosting, travel, decorations, the office gift exchange, teacher gifts, cards and shipping. Add a small buffer for the things you always forget. A gift list planner makes the per-person part much easier.
Step 3: Divide by your paychecks
Take what you still need to save and divide it by the paychecks you have left. That's your Christmas amount per paycheck. If it's too high, trim the list now rather than putting the gap on a credit card in December.
Step 4: Move it on payday
Set up an automatic transfer to a separate savings account (or a labeled envelope if you use cash) for the same day your paycheck lands. Money you never see in checking is much harder to spend by accident. This is the same idea as a sinking fund: the guide is written for Australia, but the method is identical.

Biweekly earners get 26 paychecks a year, so two months have three paydays. If one of those falls before Christmas for you, the third paycheck can cover a big chunk of the holiday budget without touching your regular bills. Our biweekly budget template shows how to plan around them.
Step 6: Watch the January hangover
Buy now, pay later and credit card balances from December land in January, alongside the usual bills. If you do use them, write every repayment into your January budget before you buy, so the new year doesn't start in the hole.
Start next year's fund in January
The easiest Christmas is the one you start saving for in January. Take this year's real total, divide it by 26 (biweekly) or 52 (weekly), and set that small amount aside every payday from your first January check.
