Tax Time Checklist (Australia)

A plain-English tax time checklist for Aussie employees and side hustlers: what to gather before you lodge.

Tax time is easier when everything's in one place before you start. Use this checklist to gather what you need, then lodge through myGov or a registered tax agent.

Gather these first

Deadlines

If you lodge yourself, the usual deadline is 31 October. In 2026 that falls on a Saturday, so check the ATO for the exact due date that applies to you. Using a registered tax agent can give you more time if you're on their list before the deadline.

Keep records all year

A simple tracker for income and receipts makes next year's tax time much faster.
